YOUNG MEMBERS

UNISON boasts 75,000 young members and rising, one of the fastest increasing young memberships in an UK trade union.

Where young people are part of a workforce represented by a trade union they get a better deal, including improved pay and career opportunities, and are less at risk from exploitation, accidents and injury compared to young workers in non-unionised workplaces. That's why our priority is to recruit and support more young members.

You can download a branch application form here - it's the quickest way to becoming a member!

A FUTURE THAT WORKS: A TUC NATIONAL RALLY FOR YOUNG PEOPLE
This event, supported by UNISON, will take place at Manchester Town Hall on Saturday January 29th 2011 from 10.30am to 2.30pm

The aim of the rally will be to highlight the impact of the recession and the coalition cuts on young workers and young people in general. If you want to attend, please contact your regional young members contact before 7th January 2011. Please note that numbers are limited.

*** YOUNG MEMBERS WEEKEND 2011 ***
This year’s young members weekend takes place in Cardiff from 13 – 15 May. We’ve made a major change to the event to reflect our priority of campaigning in defence of public services, and part of the weekend will include public campaigning in Cardiff around the cuts, following a briefing and some skills sessions.

Each region is entitled to send up to 10 members and we are encouraging first time attenders and those from under-represented groups to put their names forward to their regional contacts as soon as possible.

UNISON will provide accommodation and meet relevant costs, and appropriate child care costs etc where relevant.

If you want to register your interest in attending, please let your branch secretary know and get in touch with your regional young members contact or email Gary Williams g.williams@unison.co.uk, UNISON’s young members officer stating your name, branch, and your membership number if known.
