Health & Safety
Your working conditions can play a very important role in determining your health and safety. More often than not, the dangers you face are hidden rather than obvious. Seemingly harmless working practices or conditions can have great effects on your well being. Your employer has a legal duty to provide you with:
- a safe workplace;
- safe working methods; and
- safe equipment
In addition your employer cannot expect you to work with substances that would put your health at risk. If your employer is putting you at risk, UNISON is there to challenge them. We do this by:
- negotiations with the employer to produce, for example, the County Council's Safety Manual;
- local Health and Safety Reps;
- using the law.
